Marla Leonow is owner and artistic director of MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE DANCE. She was a Nets Dancer in the NBA for 4 seasons. She has over 25 years of extensive dance training in all areas including jazz, tap, hip-hop, ballet, pointe, lyrical, modern and over 15 years of gymnastics training. She continues her training at Broadway Dance Center studying under choreographers such as Luam, Sheryl Murakami and Jermaine Brown. She was a 4-year member of the nationally ranked Rutgers Dance Team and majored in dance at Mason Gross School of the Arts (Rutgers University). She also received a B.A. degree in Communication while at Rutgers. She has been teaching dance and gymnastics to children of all ages for over 13 years and in addition, has her elementary teaching certification. She has coached and choreographed for various teams, including the Nets Senior Dancers, West Point Cheerleaders, WAM cheerleaders, Ridge H.S Cheerleaders and North Plainfield H.S Cheerleaders. She was featured in the movie, “Gotta Dance,” (directed by Tony Award-winning Broadway producer, Dori Berinstein) which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2008 and received numerous awards. You can check it out on Netflix. It is also now on Broadway in Chicago and is soon coming to Broadway in NYC! She has performed on Good Morning America and Good Day New York. She was also featured in the Capezio ad campaign for their Frontline Dancewear line, Dance Spirit Magazine and a Nets billboard on the NJ Turnpike. She was represented by one of the most well-known talent agencies in NYC and has performed for celebrities such as Donald Trump, Jay-z, Beyonce, Ciara, Missy Elliot, P. Diddy, Rihanna, Usher, Bon Jovi, Bruce Willis, Eva Langoria and Kanye West. Marla is passionate about the art of dance and dedicated to her students. Marla continued her training in L.A. at Millenium Dance Complex, where stars such as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Usher, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera etc. also rehearse and take classes. She also attended classes at other professional dance studios in L.A. and Hollywood such as The Edge Performing Arts Center and Debbie Reynolds Professional Rehearsal Studios, in order to keep up with the latest dance trends and deliver the absolute best to her students. She received the 2014 Star Dance Alliance Teacher Excellence Award. It is a dream come true for her to have the opportunity to share her talents and love for dance with others!
Ms. Amanda is a professional dancer and model. At the age of three, her mother enrolled her in a recreational dance class at a public library to help channel her daughter's endless expressive energy. By the age of seven, Amanda began training at a local dance studio, where she studied ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, hip hop, musical theatre, swing, and also was a member of the studio's competitive talent company for the next ten years. In her teens, Amanda also experienced her first taste of the professional dance world when she was awarded a full scholarship to study classical ballet and pointe at the training school for the New York City Ballet, The School of American Ballet. During this time, she was casted as a member of George Balanchine’s, “The Nutcracker” and “A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream.” Amanda furthered her dance career by competing at the collegiate level in college, where she was member of The College of New Jersey’s nationally ranked dance team and was Captain her senior year. She also majored in Communication Studies in college, specializing in Radio/Television/Film Production and loves to continue to explore mass media and production. Amanda was an NBA Dancer and Captain for the Brooklyn Nets and had the privilege to represent the brand performing overseas in Brazil, China, Italy and Turkey! We are so excited to have Ms. Amanda teaching all genres of dance at MPD!
Ms. Candace has an extensive background in all forms of dance. She received her early training with Appalachian Ballet Company, Atlanta Ballet and Terpsichore the Traveling Performance Company, affiliated with the University of Tennessee. Ms. Candace received her Bachelor's degree in dance education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville 1984. Upon moving to NYC to pursue dance professionally, she received training with Christine Neubert. After taking a 3 week workshop with the famed Margot Fonteyn at the Jofffrey Ballet School, she was given a scholarship to study with the school. This lead to many professional company experiences with Windemere Ballet Theatre, Balinese American Fusion Dance Theater, American Ballet Theater and Joffrey School/Company. At Joffrey, Ms. Candace began working in the children department as an assistant teacher, as well as a rehearsal assistant for the children's productions and Joffrey's Nutcracker. Eventually, at the school director's request, she began teaching her own classes at Joffrey. Ms. Cadace has now lived and worked as a ballet, tap and jazz instructor for the past 25 years in New Jersey. She has taught at New Jersey Ballet, Studio Allegro, Ballet Forte as well as choreographed many local Musicals in Morris County. She is enjoying her second year teaching all levels at Maximum Performance Dance! She is mother of Tyler 25 and Max 18 and has been married to Mike for 31 years.
Ms. Carley is a recent graduate from Pace University’s BFA Commercial Dance Program, and is currently a professional dancer in New York City. Before heading to New York, Ms. Carley started dancing at the age of three and trained as a competitive dancer at RealDance Studio in South Florida. She trained in a multitude of styles including ballet, tap, jazz, musical theater, contemporary and hip hop. Once studying at Pace University, Ms. Carley concentrated not only in Performing but Pedagogy as well. She began teaching at local studios in the city as well as New Jersey to students of all ages. She then continued on to teaching at the college level, and began an interim teaching position at Pace University in their Commercial Dance and Musical Theater programs. Most recently, Ms. Carley has performed with AIDA cruise lines and just finished a contract sailing and performing across the Mediterranean. She is happy to be back in New York City and looking forward to starting the season at MPD!

Ms. Donna has been dancing since the age of four, and although Ballet is her favorite genre, she has also studied and enjoys Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, and Water Exercise as well. Aside from training under many famous names in NYC, Ms. Donna has earned her teaching Certification from Dance Educators of America. Ms. Donna was a member of the New Jersey Dance Theatre Guild/Ensemble for many years where she studied and performed under the Artistic Director of Juilliard, Mr. Alfredo Corvino. Through the years, Ms. Donna has performed and been the recipient of many Dance and Modeling awards and Titles. Some of Ms. Donna's favorite performances were when she was dancing side by side with her two children when they were in High School. They performed in Evita and Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat with The Premier Theatre Company. With almost forty years of teaching under her belt, Ms. Donna has Choreographed for Dance Studios as well as Community Centers and Middle School Musicals. Ms. Donna has also choreographed many high scoring pieces for State and National Dance Competitions and has been acknowledged with Choreography and Special Awards as well. Ms. Donna prides herself on teaching her students with a strong foundation with proper technique, dance etiquette, and respect for ourselves, the arts and others. She loves sharing her joy of Dance with everyone, no matter how old they are! When an 85 year old gentleman came into her Adult Tap class years ago, it just warmed her heart! Ms. Donna is happiest when she touches the lives of others. It brings her such joy to have worked with students for many years and to have been a part of their growth and accomplishments.
Ms. Eunice Suba started dancing when she was 8 years old at Dancers In Motion in Nutley, NJ, owned by Taheerah Allen. She danced ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, and hip hop and was a member of the school’s Dance Competition Troupe for 7 years. She earned numerous dance awards, dance titles, and was a constant First Place Overall Soloist Winner in both regionals and nationals dance competitions. Ms. Eunice was invited to join the intensive program at New Jersey School of Ballet at age 13 and later became apart of the Junior Company. She was chosen to perform the lead role of Clara in the company's production of The Nutcracker. Ms. Eunice received scholarships in summer intensive programs at Miami City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre NYC, and French Academie Ballet. In 2017, Ms. Eunice received an apprenticeship with the NJ Ballet Company and then got promoted to become a full company member in 2018. Ms. Eunice earned a Gold Medal at the Valentina Kozlova International Competition NYC Finals 2018. Additionally, she was selected out of many to compete at the USA International Ballet Competition 2018. Along with dancing professionally, Ms. Eunice loves to teach. She has experience in teaching ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, and contemporary to dancers from ages 2 to 18 years old. Ms. Eunice is very excited for her second year with the Maximum Performance Dance's staff!
Ms. Felicia grew up as a competitive dancer for over two decades and has trained at studios including Broadway Dance Center, STEPS on Broadway, Alvin Ailey, and her local NJ studio. She received scholarships to attend University of the Arts (Philadelphia), Rutgers University, and Point Park University. Felicia was a member of the nationally ranked Rutgers University dance team. She has modeled for Dance Spirit magazine, Bodywrappers, and the Dance Teacher Summit fashion show. She appeared on TV shows including The Apprentice, The Rachel Ray Show, Aeropostle commercial, American Gladiator, and many nationally televised news specials. In 2008, Felicia appeared on MTV’s Season 2 of America’s Best Dance Crew. Following she became a member of the NJ Ironmen and New Jersey Devil Dance Team and was part of the New Jersey Devils Dancers for six years. In 2013, Felicia appeared in the Kelly Clarkson, “Stronger” music video. She also has worked closely with many choreographers such as, Mia Michaels, Mandy Moore, Shelia Barker, Talia Favia, Sonya Tayeh, and Tabitha & Napoleon. Felicia can also be found backstage or judging for well-known competitions. We are thrilled to have Ms. Felicia working with our All Star team and the MPDC this year!
Ms. Gina has been dancing since the age of 2. She has extensive training and competitive experience in all styles of dance. She was a dancer in the David Guette, J Balvin and Bebe Rexha’s “Say My Name” music video as well as a dancer in Radio Disney’s Star “Rayla” music video. Ms. Gina also was a backup dancer at the Industry Dance Awards and for Frankie Zulferino’s headlining show at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City. In addition, she was a staff member for Powerpak Dance for Star Dance Alliance. Ms. Gina continues her training by taking classes at Broadway Dance Center in NYC and Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles. She is excited to share her passion for dance with the MPD students!
Ms. Melissa grew up in dance and gymnastics classes and fell in love with both! She is experienced in ballet and tap and specializes in jazz and hip hop. Later, Melissa began to focus more on gymnastics to assist her with cheer in high school. Ms. Melissa was a cheerleader at Watching Hills Regional High School and was the assistant JV Cheer Coach there. Ms. Melissa is also a personal trainer, certified by the National Council on Strength and Fitness. Ms. Melissa has worked with both our mini and petite dance company leading them to many high score victories. She recently represented MPD at the Star Dance Alliance Circle of Excellence Awards Banquet to receive recognition for our petite jazz routine, which was a regional winner. Reminiscent of some of the greatest years of her life, she is passionate about sharing her enthusiasm and excitement about cheer, dance and gymnastics with her students. She feels there is nothing more rewarding than showing pride through tumbling, dancing and a show stopping routine!
Ms. Zoe started dancing when she was two years old. She trained at Dance On Q Performing Arts Center in South Brunswick, New Jersey until she graduated high school. Throughout her years training there she also took class at Broadway Dance Center in the city, and took workshops from various known choreographers such as Victor Smalley, Desmond Richardson, etc. Zoe danced on her high school dance team at South Brunswick High School. She was on varsity all four years and captain her senior year. After graduating high school she attended Rutgers University where she danced on the dance team all four years and was also captain her senior year. Her junior and senior years at Rutgers, the team was chosen to represent the USA as the US National Pom Team. Her junior year they were gold medalist and her senior year silver medalist. Zoe was also chosen to compete in China and Poland with one other dancer again to represent the USA during the summer leading into her senior year. They won gold medals in both China and Poland. Zoe graduated from Rutgers University this past May and is now training in the city to become a professional dancer. She is very excited for her first year teaching at MPD!
Adar Wellington - Guest Instructor
Adar Wellington is currently the Coach and Choreographer of the Brooklyn NETS Dancers, the professional dance team that performs at every Brooklyn NETS Basketball home game in diverse styles including hip hop, jazz, musical theater, Latin, and swing. The Brooklyn NETS Dancers also serve as ambassadors of the NBA throughout the world, with recent performances in Russia, Spain, England, China, Singapore, South Korea, the Philippines, and Mexico. Adar studied dance at Rutgers University with a major in Dance, and she was a member of their nationally ranked dance team. Adar was captain of the NBA’s BrooklynNETS Dancers from 2005 through 2008. Her additional performance credits include touring with Rihanna and Ashanti and dancing with recording artists such as Kanye West, Pitbull, Diddy, Ciara, Fergie, Elton John, Ricky Martin, Akon, and Panic at the Disco among others.
Jessica Goldstone- Guest Instructor
Jessica was a former Nets Dancer and the Captain of the team for several years. She was also an NBA All-Star dancer. Ms. Jessica has traveled around the world performing in countries such as Singapore, England, China, Argentina and more! She was a back-up dancer for artists such as Shakira, Flo Rida, Pitbull, Vanilla Ice, Ludacris and B.O.B to name a few.
